Hinterdom’s inhabitants are organized into three loose kingdoms: Mammalia (furry creatures), Herpetón (cold-blooded creatures), and Aves (feathered creatures).
These kingdoms are built around species affinity rather than strict borders, with most small villages formed by kin-groups of the same species. In larger towns, diverse species live side by side, blending and sharing life together.
Mamalia
The Furry Folk
The Mammalia of Hinterdom are a diverse group of furry creatures, each bringing their own skills and warmth to their communities. From the swift-footed fox people to the strong and dependable bear folk, these tribes share a natural bond that ties them together. They live in harmony with the forests, plains, and hills, often forming close-knit villages made up of those they call kin.
Mammalia societies value family, loyalty, and respect for the natural world—traits that are reflected in everything they do, from farming and building to celebrating the changing seasons. They share a deep empathy with their wild cousins, the traditional animals that live among them, and this connection to nature is at the heart of their lives

Aves
The Winged Ones
The Aves are the winged creatures of Hinterdom, representing a wide range of birds, from the wise owls to the noble hawks. Many Aves live high in the trees or on mountain cliffs, crafting homes that bring them close to the sky they cherish. These people are often found in small villages among their own kind, but some live in the more diverse towns where different species come together.
The Aves value freedom, perspective, and exploration—traits that often draw them beyond their homes to see the world from above. They share a strong bond with their wild counterparts, able to sense the needs and emotions of the birds they live alongside. The Aves are often the messengers and scouts of Hinterdom, using their keen eyes and swift wings to help keep the land and its people connected.
Herpetón
The Cold-Blooded Kin
The Herpetón are the cold-blooded creatures of Hinterdom, including tortoises, crocodiles, and lizards. These people are as diverse as the wetlands, deserts, and mountains they inhabit. They often live in tight-knit, species-specific tribes, but they are also seen in larger towns where different kinds come together.
The Herpetón are known for their resilience, patience, and adaptability—qualities that help them thrive in both the hottest and driest parts of Hinterdom. They share an instinctive bond with their non-speaking animal kin, able to understand them on a level that goes beyond words. The Herpetón value wisdom and tradition, often taking time to reflect before making decisions, and their way of life emphasizes balance and a deep respect for the world they share with others.
